Solar power, cultural flair and vegetarian cuisine – Laax's iconic hotel goes the extra mile
Laax simply wouldn’t be Laax without the Riders Hotel. Renowned as a meetingplace for snowsports enthusiasts, recent years have seen the hotel evolving into a cultural and culinary hub where the pleasures of life are enjoyed. The Riders Hotel provides convincing evidence that all of this can be achieved sustainably.
Solar panels on the roof supply 30% of the electricity demand, and the rest of the electricity is generated by hydropower. Disposable plastic has been entirely eliminated from the premises; only LED lamps are used, and most of the hotel’s furniture consists of hand-me-downs or recycled items. Also, all the soaps and shampoos provided here consist solely of natural products.
The Riders is an entirely vegetarian hotel. Each week, the chefs create new and completely vegetarian three-course menus, always appropriate to the season.
The hotel is also a venue for culture-lovers to meet up. Concerts, exhibitions and parties are staged regularly, with a special emphasis on promoting local artists and offering them a venue for their performances.
