The sun has been used for heating for around 45 years

The Wellness Hotel Stoos is located against an impressive mountain backdrop. It is a place that is rich in history with breathtaking views. Hospitality is the top priority here, along with preserving an unspoilt natural environment. More than 40 years ago, the Koch family were among the first in the region to promote renewable energies and deploy innovative systems. By installing solar heating equipment on the roof of what is now the Wellness Hotel Stoos, they laid the initial foundation for a sustainable future in 1980. 

Since 2013, the hotel has been proud of its certification by the Energy Agency for Business (EnAW) and is consistently committed to energy efficiency. The intention is to save 179 tons of CO2 by the end of 2023. The Wellness Hotel Stoos cleverly combines tradition and innovation and is a pioneer in environmental protection and sustainability.

The journey to the car-free mountain village of Stoos is exclusively via mountain railways, whether this is on the steepest funicular in the world from Schwyz, or via the small cable car from Morschach. Guests are transported to the hotel in an environmentally friendly way, by carriage or electric vehicle. As part of myclimate's “Cause We Care” initiative, the hotel offers its guests the opportunity to make their stay even more sustainable, by offsetting a proportion of the CO2 emissions created with voluntary contributions. Sustainable alternatives are also used in all areas of the hotel, and waste is cut to a minimum. This includes linen slippers, the hotel’s own jam in glass jars, and sustainable beauty products from Pharmos Natur in the wellness area.

The Stoos Hotels group is also actively committed to social sustainability and the well-being of its employees. It operates an accredited mountain daycare centre at Stoos Lodge, where employees benefit from a 50 percent reduction in fees. Together with modern working time models such as working from home and four-day weeks, it is much easier for staff to balance their professional and private lives.

The training of talented young professionals is also very important to the company: a total of eight different training courses are offered, and trainees from various hotel management schools are supervised. The high level of satisfaction among young career starters is reflected in the fact that around 95 percent go on to be employed at the company after completing their training.

The Wellness Hotel Stoos actively contributes to strengthening the community on the Stoos too. On the one hand, free use of the indoor swimming pool is offered for school sports lessons at the Stoos Mountain School. On the other hand, it hosts the traditional mountain wrestling festival, which is held once a year on the hotel grounds, with around 3,500 visitors from the region.
