A place with an abundance of Valais identity
Located in beautiful Goms, the Hotel Glocke sets an excellent example of sustainability in Valais. The energy is generated from a wood pellet heating system and the leftovers are sent to a biogas company in Raron. The hotel building consists largely of wood, with a clay base. The new building erected in 2020 complies with all the Minergie standards.
Wherever possible, the kitchen uses regional ingredients and produces a variety of foods itself. The nose-to-tail approach is implemented here, and no flavour enhancers whatsoever are used. Moreover, the wines served in the hotel originate exclusively from Valais. And with only a very few exceptions, all the other drinks served at the bar are Swiss – so guests are often amazed to realise how many domestic products they never knew before.
Careful separation of waste is implemented throughout the premises; there are no television sets, minibars or electric kettles in the bedrooms, and rooms are only cleaned at guests’ request. The hotel supports a project in Zambia through its collaboration with the ‘Wasser für Wasser’ safe water charity. The Glocke uses the «Too Good To Go» app to avoid food wastage wherever possible.
The hotel also hosts Qi Gong, Feldenkrais and other dance courses for participants from the neighbourhood, making it a popular venue for Goms residents to meet up.
