Looking for a present? The gift that's also a good deed!
Everything is sourced from the Lötschental region
A focus on the local region is accorded high priority at the Hotel Fafleralp in Lötschental valley – with visible results. Almost all the raw materials in the kitchen and the cellar originate from within a radius of no more than 100 kilometers. Electricity is generated by the neighbouring Breithorn-Fafleralp hydropower plant, and the hotel only uses regional timber and stone from the valley for conversion work on its buildings.
The hotel taps its own spring to provide all of its water supply, and it produces its own soap: ingredients naturally include Alpine herbs from the region. The hotel also sells various products marketed under the «Naturally Lötschental» umbrella brand, thus ensuring that local jobs are protected and promoting the diversity of local products. The Fafleralp is particularly concerned to integrate the local population into its operation, because this is the only way to slow down the pace of emigration from the valley and prevent it in the longer term.
The entire facility consistently avoids the use of disposable plastic. The catering concept is based on implementation of the nose-to-tail principle, which advocates use of the entire animal insofar as possible. Water served in the restaurant is tapped exclusively from the hotel’s own spring.
