Water, nature and enjoyment are the keynotes
The history of the Grandhotel Giessbach is anything but ordinary. After its rescue from impending demolition in 1982, the property underwent a gradual, gentle and sustainable restoration. It numbers among the founding members of Swiss Historic Hotels. Protection of nature, animals, historic architecture and heritage have always been top priorities at the Grandhotel, directly adjoining Lake Brienz.
The Tapis Rouge restaurant was one of the first to address the vegetarian and Vegan trend, and its menus are largely dedicated to these cuisines. Any meat or fish served here is of Swiss origin, from providers who apply correct farming methods. When it comes to herbs used in the kitchen, the hotel is fully self-sufficient; over 90 fruit and vegetable varieties on the ProSpecieRara inventory are grown on its own land, and the hotel’s own bees supply 400 kilograms of honey each year.
The Grandhotel Giessbach enables ten percent of its employees to reintegrate into everyday working life. 100% of the property’s power is taken from the nearby Giessbach hydropower plant.
