The menu in the GuardaVal gourmet restaurant is the best expression of the sustainability philosophy that is put into practice throughout the Engadine Boutique Hotel GuardaVal. The hotel features ‘Art culinarica alpina’ to reflect the cuisine of the Alpine region and its endeavour to make the maximum possible use of Alpine products. This avoids lengthy transportation distances: all the foods that reach the kitchen meet the highest nutritional and energetic standards.

The company offers year-round positions to almost all its employees, and is highly committed to long-term working relationships. To prove the point, it has invested in and built modern and attractive residential accommodation for its workforce. As well as giving employees families the chance of a future in the local area, this policy greatly benefits the local school and the community as a whole.

The hotel compensates for over 1,000 tonnes of CO2 per year, and it invests the compensation in climate protection projects. In recognition of its low consumption of resources (only about 30% of the average for the Swiss hotel industry), the GuardaVal won the prize awarded by the Energy Agency of the Swiss Private Sector (EnAW).

Guests can also experience local solidarity with the Romansh culture in the Engadine Boutique Hotel. Phrases and forms of address used by staff, signage and menus all convey a little of the Romansh cultural heritage.
